What is in News ?
The initiative to introduce the Khelo India Games were to bring India’s sports culture back to life. Due to the COVID situation, the 2021 Khelo India Games have been postponed. It is now scheduled to take place in Haryana in January 2022. Anurag Singh Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, will attend the games.
Who will host the Khelo India Youth Games 2022-23?
Madhya Pradesh will host the Khelo India Youth Games in 2022-23. The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet recently approved Bhopal as the host city for the games. The cabinet also approved a 50-acre plot of land for the construction of an international sports centre.
Allocation of funds
For the first phase, the Madhya Pradesh government set aside Rs 176.59 crores. The International Sports Complex will cost Rs 15.56 crore to operate and maintain. For the second and third phases, separate funds will be granted.
Facilities
The sports stadium will be equipped with a 10,000-seat hockey rink, a 4,000-seat football field, landscaping, parking, horticulture, guardrooms, gates, internal service roads, street lighting, and sewage systems.
Work in progress
In the first phase, an indoor sports complex would be constructed in Bhopal’s Nathu Barkheda hamlet.
A cricket stadium will be developed in the second and third phases.
About Khelo India Youth Games
A total of 25 sporting events will be conducted. Yoga, Malkhamb, Thang – Ta, Kalariyapattu, and Gatka are among the five traditional games included. It will take place in five different locations. Ambala, Panchkula, Chandigarh, Shahabad, and Delhi are the cities in question. The games are expected to attract around 8,500 players.
Exposition of Sports
The Haryana government plans to have a sports expo at the Khelo India Youth Games. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Authority of India will co-host the event.
Mallakhamba or Malkhamb are two different names for the same thing.
The athlete performs gymnastic poses and aerial yoga in this traditional sport. He or she also uses a hinged wooden pole to perform wrestling grips. The pole is constructed of Sheesham, an Indian rosewood that has been polished with castor oil. Madhya Pradesh is a state where it is widely played.
Thang Ta Games
It is Manipurese martial arts.It is devoted to both religion and combat. Weapons such as a dagger and a sword are included. Huyen Lallong is another name for Thang Ta. It refers to the mechanism of protection. Controlling the physical via worship is also part of it.
Kalaripayattu
Kerala is a state where it is commonly practiced. It is also a martial art, similar to Thang Ta. Kalari is another name for it. It is the country’s oldest surviving martial art. It dates back 3000 years. Yoga and dancing forms are included. Kicks, strikes, grappling, and healing techniques are all used in Kalaripayattu.
Gatka
Gatka is a style of martial arts. It is usually connected with Punjabi Sikhs. It’s extremely popular among Hindkowans. Stick fighting is part of it. In Punjabi, the word “gatka” means “wooden stick.”
