Shreyas Iyer has embedded another gem to his crown! India’s flamboyant batter Shreyas Iyer has scripted history by scoring another half-century in the second Test against Sri Lanka. He achieved this feat at the ongoing match in M Chinnaswamy Stadium. On a twisting track, Iyer scored 92 runs in the first innings, with none of the Indian hitters scoring more than 50 runs. Moreover, he added another fighting fifty in the second innings. Before being removed by Lasith Embuldeniya, he scored 67 runs off 87 balls.
Iyer becomes the first Indian hitter to reach fifty or more in both innings of the day-night Test with his twin half-centuries in the same match. After Darren Bravo, Steve Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne, he became the fourth batter to achieve this feat.
Shreyas Iyer’s Test Debut
The star player, Shreyas Iyer made his Test debut against New Zealand in November of last year. Iyer received his Test cap from former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on November 25, 2021, and hit his first century against the New Zealand team. In his debut innings, Iyer smashed a stunning 105 runs. He became the 16th Indian player to achieve a century in his debut test match.

Shreyas Iyer, an important member of India’s limited-overs team, has a strong first-class record. Shreyas played 54 first-class matches before making his Test debut. During that time, he scored 4,592 runs at a 52.18 average. He achieved 12 centuries and 23 half-centuries with his bat in this period.
