  • Toyota Mirai is India’s first all hydrogen electric vehicle.
  • India will soon begin generating the green hydrogen.

In a push to promote the alternative fuel-powered vehicle, the Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari traveled to Parliament in a green Hydrogen-Powered vehicle, Toyota Mirai. Toyota Mirai is India’s first all hydrogen electric vehicle. Mirai is currently running on a pilot basis to push for greener and cleaner sources of energy for mobility solutions in India. The green hydrogen vehicle runs entirely on electricity generated by hydrogen.

Green hydrogen production to begin in India

Gadkari unveiled the hydrogen car earlier this month. It is India’s first Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) to run. The hydrogen car can supposedly travel around 600 kilometers on a full tank. The car, according to the ministry, is a trial project aimed at boosting green hydrogen. It further added that green hydrogen production will soon begin in the nation.

Step to make India ‘ Atmanirbhar’

In a step closer to becoming ‘Atmanirbhar, India has introduced green hydrogen, which is produced from water. This project will reduce the country’s reliance on expensive imported fuels. It will also provide a boost to new job possibilities in the nation.

This would be a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, focused on raising awareness about hydrogen and FCEV technology. It will also help in disseminating its advantages to promote India’s transition to a hydrogen-based society.

Toyota Mirai: World’s most advanced Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV)

The ministry previously announced the launch of a pilot project by Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd and the International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT). The project aimed at promoting sustainability through the widespread adoption of multiple pathways to enable energy shift from fossil fuels and toward environmental conservation.

Hydrogen is an important part of the energy strategy which will play an important role in low-carbon energy routes. The pilot project, according to Toyota, will study and evaluate the world’s most advanced Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), the ‘Toyota Mirai,’ which runs on hydrogen, on Indian roads, and in Indian climates.

Green hydrogen-powered transportation

According to an earlier ministry statement, green hydrogen provides significant opportunities to decarbonize a variety of industries, including road transportation, and is gathering unprecedented pace internationally.

Green hydrogen-powered transportation will be a key technology choice in the future, with widespread use, particularly in larger automobiles, buses, trucks, ships, and trains. It is also best suited for medium to long distances, according to the report.
