TIPS TO FOLLOW: SKIN CARE ROUTINE FOR PRE AND POST-HOLI

Holi, the festival of colors, makes its way to us to splash vibrant colors with great joy and happiness. After a long wait of a year, finally, the Holi is around the corners. Holi is not only a festival of colors but it is also a festival to share small pleasures of life with your friends or family. This is a festival of making memories. One aspect of this celebration of colors that we must consider is our skin. Colors used in Holi consists harmful chemicals that can have a bad impact on the skin.

That should not, however, dampen our spirits; Holi is also about forgetting sorrows and relishing life’s small pleasures. What is Holi without a splash of color, a plethora of sweets, and a dash of water?
Preparing the skin to withstand the severe impacts of the splashing of colors and water is one of the most important aspects of the Holi celebration. Here are some tips to follow while celebrating the festival of color.

Pre Holi Skin Care Routine

Face protection- Apply facial oils or moisturizers a few days before the festival to protect your skin from harsh chemicals included in chemical-based colors. This will help replenish your skin, restore its oil balance, and prevent it from absorbing harmful chemicals.

Do this at least 30 minutes before you plan to leave the house to allow the moisturizer to absorb into the pores. This keeps the color from adhering to your skin and allows you to scrub it off later.

Lip protection- Instead of petroleum jelly, try using an organic lip balm to protect your lips from harmful chemicals and colors. It will keep your lips nourished and moisturized. As the lips are equally prone to picking up color and flaking and chipping, using a lip balm with an SPF is essential.

Eye Protection- The eyes are commonly the victims of Holi injuries. Wearing sunglasses that shield the eyes from direct contact with colour bursts, water jets, and other harmful chemicals is thus a good idea.

Heat protection- Holi is usually played outside, and repeated exposure to the sun and water can dehydrate your skin and cause your skin to tan. Before going outside to play, always apply a substantial amount of suitable sunscreen lotion, at least SPF 50 all over the body.

Nail Protection- It’s also important to protect the nails while playing Holi, as they take the brunt of the color. You must use nail paint to protect your nails from Holi colors. Apply a top coat for extra protection and to keep your nails from staining. Simply remove using an acetone-free nail paint remover once the festive is over.

Post Holi Skin Care Routine

  • Cleanse your face with a natural face wash to help remove dirt and harmful chemicals from your face and prevent breakouts.

  • After shampooing, condition the hair and leave it for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water.
  • Color-treated hair should use a color-protecting conditioner.
