To encourage the girls to pursue higher education, the Tamil Nadu Government has launched a scheme. Under the scheme, the government has decided to provide a monthly deposit to females in government schools. The move has been taken in order to promote and assist them in pursuing further education.
According to the state government, this program will help around 6 lakh girl students of the government schools in the state. A sum of Rs 1000 would be put in the bank accounts of female students studying at government schools. A total budget of Rs 698 crores has been allocated for the scheme.
Who will be getting the benefits?
All-female students in government schools from grades 6 to 12 would be paid Rs 1,000 in their bank accounts. They will be benefiting from the scheme till they complete their undergraduate degree, certificate, or ITI courses without interruption. In addition to other scholarships available, students would be eligible for this plan.
Marriage scheme renamed to higher education scheme
This is also being done to address the problem of low female enrolment in higher education from government schools. The “Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Memorial Marriage Assistance Scheme” is being renamed the “Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme” in Tamil Nadu, according to FM Rajan.
