The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has constituted an expert advisory committee. This committee was formed to carry out the government’s ambitions to make India a global leader in semiconductor manufacture, innovation, and design.
About the Semicon India Programme
The Semicon India Program has been approved for the development of semiconductors and the demonstration of manufacturing ecosystems over a six-year period.
About India Semiconductor Mission (ISM)
A dedicated India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has been established inside the Digital India Corporation to improve the country’s plans for the development of display ecosystems and semiconductors.
The goal of this project is to turn India into a worldwide electronics hub, as the IT industry is suffering from a shortage of microchips.
Importance of semiconductor chips
Semiconductor chips are used in the manufacture of household products, electronics, medical devices, and automobiles.
Working of the advisory committee
The Advisory Committee will assist ISM executives in achieving their objectives of improving the country’s semiconductor mission in a cost-effective, systematic, and strategic manner. This committee will also make recommendations for developing India’s display ecosystems and semiconductors.
This committee’s goal is to contribute to the development of a dependable supply chain, financing mechanisms, investment promotion, innovation, research, global involvement, and IP generation for display ecosystems and semiconductors. They will also provide plans to assist SMEs and new businesses.
The committee’s chairman
The Advisory Committee will be led by Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology. Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, MeitY, will serve as the committee’s convenor.
