On the reality show Shark Tank, a 13-year-old girl wins 50Lakh rupees for her anti-bullying app. Anoushka Jolly became the youngest candidate to propose her business idea on the Indian version of Shark Tank. It is surprising to know that a 13 year old girl has been garnered for Rs 50 lakh financial opportunity. Anupam Mittal and Aman Gupta, both ‘Sharks,’ invested in her anti-bullying software ‘Kavach.’
Incident that inspired Jolly to develop the App
Jolly has vivid memories of witnessing a fellow student being humiliated at a school function five years ago. However, for this 13-year-old, the experience served as a catalyst for launching a social movement to combat bullying and give a forum for students and parents to anonymously report incidents.
With the cooperation of educational institutions, social groups, and professionals, the ‘Anti Bullying Squad (ABS)’ has positively touched over 2,000 students from over 100 schools and universities, according to Jolly, who founded the internet platform three years ago.
What is Kavach application?
The Class 8 student has also created a Smartphone application called ‘Kavach,’ which allows kids and parents to anonymously report bullying incidences, allowing schools to take appropriate action.
Ms Jolly, who was nine years old at the time, said the incident of the girl being tormented “was registered in my memory and I still cannot forget her face,” she was horrified and felt helpless.
Her Statements
“My classmates decided to bully the six-year-old girl who they considered bothersome when I was at the school’s annual day. They approached her and began calling her names and laughing at her “she stated
“I quickly realized how widespread the problem is and observed many other children my age being bullied and losing confidence,” said Ms Jolly, whose social initiative not only earned her the youngest competitor on TV reality show Shark Tank India, but also won her 50Lakh rupees financing offer.
The proud message
While congratulating her Capt Rohit Sen Bajaj, Director, Pathways School, Gurugram, said “We take immense pride in the spirit and passion of Anoushka Jolly whose work toward eliminating bullying in schools and campuses is not only educating many about the issue but also empowering young and old to stand up for themselves and others,”.
