WhatsApp is experimenting with a new feature that allows Android users to transfer their chat history to iOS. The new feature is already available in the WhatsApp beta version and will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.
Users of WhatsApp for iOS can already transfer their chat history to Android devices. Transferring chat history from Android to iOS, on the other hand, was not possible until now.
“We’re adding to WhatsApp the ability to securely switch between phones and transfer your chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages between Android and iPhone while maintaining end-to-end encryption,” said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of WhatsApp parent company Meta Platforms.
There are a few things to keep in mind
if you’re using WhatsApp beta and want to try out the new Android to iOS chat transfer feature:
To begin, your device must run Android 5 (Lollipop) or later, as well as WhatsApp (Android) 2.22.7.74 or later. You’ll need iOS 15.5 or higher on your iPhone.
On your new device, you must use the same phone number as your old phone.
Furthermore, transferring your chat history from Android to iOS will necessitate the use of a brand-new iPhone, so this will only be possible if you are setting up a new iPhone. You’ll need to perform a factory reset on an older device first.
A power source must be connected to both of your devices. Last but not least, both devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
What is the best way to move WhatsApp chat data from Android to iOS?
1. On your Android phone, download the Move to iOS app.
2. On your iPhone, a code will appear. Enter the code on your Android phone when prompted.
3. On the Transfer Data screen, tap Continue and then WhatsApp.
4. After pressing Start, wait for the data to be prepared. You’ll be signed out of your Android device once the data is ready.
5. Return to the Move to iOS app by tapping Next. Then, to transfer data from your Android phone to your iPhone, select Continue and wait for Move to iOS to confirm the transfer is complete.
6. Then, on your iOS device, download the most recent version of WhatsApp and log in with the same phone number.
7. When prompted to complete the process, select Start.
