What is HMPV?
Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory virus that typically leads to symptoms resembling those of the common cold. It primarily affects the upper respiratory system, causing conditions like runny nose, cough. In some cases, it may lead to lower respiratory infections like pneumonia.
The virus spreads by coughing and sneezing, and it can also be transmitted by touching surfaces contaminated with the virus.
Though it was first identified by scientists in 2001, studies suggest that HMPV has been circulating in human populations since the 1970s. Globally, the virus is responsible for about 4-16% of acute respiratory infections.
Is HMPV vaccine available?
Currently, there is no vaccine for Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), and antiviral treatments are generally not recommended. However, individuals can take several important steps to help prevent the spread of HMPV and other respiratory viruses. These preventive measures are essential for reducing transmission, particularly during cold and flu seasons.
Who said what?

We are closely monitoring the situation”.
