Meta announced new “Calls” tab to Messenger app for iOS

Meta has announced the addition of a new ‘Calls’ tab to its Messenger app for iOS. The feature will be available on Android in the coming weeks.

The new tab will be added to the bottom of the app, alongside the ‘Chats,’ ‘Stories,’ and ‘People’ tabs. This makes it easier for users to navigate through a list of contacts and find the person they want to call.

Video and audio calls have increased by 40%

Previously, calling the convoluted processes required entering a thread with the contact present. Users can contact their friends directly through the ‘Calls’ tab.

According to Meta, video and audio calls have increased by 40% since early 2020. Every day, more than 300 million audio and video calls are made on Messenger around the world, according to the company.

Users will be able to edit incorrect texts after sending

In other news, WhatsApp, another Meta platform, is testing an edit button for text messages. Users will be able to edit incorrect texts after sending them, which was previously not possible.

Interestingly, the company had previously worked on the feature but abandoned it five years ago. It has now returned the feature to testing, but it remains to be seen whether it will ever be made available to the general public.
