INDIA SKILLS 2021 NATIONAL COMPETITION BEGINS IN NEW DELHI

What is in the News ?

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) organized the India Skills competition . It is organized once in every two years. The competition takes place in several locales. The India Skills competition 2021 will take place at Pragati Maidan, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other cities from 07 January to 09 January. It all started in the Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

India’s Skills in 2021

The NSDC is hosting more than fifty skill competitions . Welding, cyber security, painting, floristry, additive manufacturing, patisserie, and more professions are included. Abilympics is also included in the list . Abilympics are competitions in which physically challenged people demonstrate their abilities.

It is the country’s most important and one of the biggest skill competition. India Skills 2021 winners will compete in the World Skills competition. In 2022, the World Skills competition will be held in Shanghai, China. The winners will battle against 1500 competitors from 60 nations. The “Olympics of Skills” is the name of the World Skills competition.

What is the significance of India skills competition ?

To offer developing professionals with an opportunity and a platform to showcase their abilities. It enables collaboration between businesses, governments, and academics. It assists young people in gaining international recognition and repute.

India’s World Skills

It is run by the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC), which is part of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The World Skills India expert committee is in charge of putting together Team India for the World Skills tournament.

The NSDC’s Role in India’s Skills Competition

  • It serves as a secretariat for the India Skills expert team and World Skills India.
  • It forms and strengthens ties amongst the various stakeholders involved in the competition.

Need for India Skills competition

Only 21.1 percent of India’s labour force is skilled, according to the United Nations Development Programme. According to the CMIE (Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy), India’s unemployment rate in December 2021 was more than 5%. In India, there are various obstacles to skill development. There are caste-based concerns, a lack of cooperation from the state administration, and a lack of micro-level research. All of these obstacles are eliminated in the tournament. Only the participants’ abilities are valued.
