When there is a will, there is a way. This has been demonstrated by Pratiksha Tondwalkar of Pune, who was an assistant general manager at SBI before working as a floor sweeper in a bank. However, Pratiksha did not achieve this overnight; rather, it was the result of years of toil and effort on her part.
Pratiksha reportedly married at the age of 17, and she passed away when she was just 20. She had no formal education, which made it difficult for her to get employment. She therefore began working at SBI as a cleaner to support her family.
After difficult circumstances decided to complete her education
Despite her difficult circumstances, Pratiksha made the wise decision to complete her education and obtain a degree. She was promoted from a ‘Safai Karmachari (Sweeper)’ to a clerk after demonstrating her dedication. However, the process did not end there; she was later promoted to Scale 4 officer, then CGM, and finally AGM.
The State Bank of India has also recognised Pratiksha for her outstanding achievements as a result of her determination, dedication, and sincere hard work.
She then enrolled in a night college in Vikhroli, Mumbai, with her own money, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1995. Pratiksha claims that her colleagues fully supported her higher
Now the Assistant General Manager
Pratiksha was promoted to the position of bank clerk after completing her graduation. And, after many years of service at SBI, she is now the AGM. Pratiksha is now on the verge of retirement, as she will complete her 37-year career with SBI in just two years.
Pratiksha’s job life must come to an end, but she still has a long way to go. The AGM graduated from a naturopathy programme in 2021, and she plans to use her education to help others after she retires.
Pratiksha’s extraordinary story is an inspiration to many in a country where men dominate the banking profession. Working women are more likely to be victims of social oppression than men because they must work harder to support their families and advance in their careers. This is why Pratiksha is being lauded for her achievements.
