TAMIL NADU CHIEF MINISTER’S FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM: NEW SCHEME LETS THE YOUTH ASSIST THE GOVERNMENT IN TN

Now the youth will be able to assist the government! The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Fellowship Program has been introduced by the state government. The new scheme has been started with the goal of utilizing the talents of young professionals from various academic backgrounds in the implementation of various programs. The government would provide the selected Fellows with a monthly pay of Rs 50,000.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Fellowship Program: Objectives

 The main goals of this program are to create a pool of knowledgeable and action-oriented resources to work on policy efficacy, to develop and implement internationally-recognized benchmarks for policy outcomes, to develop and implement a measuring system across various sectors, to create a workable quadrant of different service delivery processes in terms of their maturity and impact, to create a knowledge repository to identify impact creation and scale up best practices, and so on.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Fellowship Program: Research themes

The government has identified 12 research themes under the program: water resource enhancement, agricultural production, productivity, and marketing linkage creation, infrastructure and industrial development, housing for all, education, health, social inclusion, institutional credit, skill development and entrepreneurship development, heritage, and culture, ecological balance, and data governance.

The Special Program Implementation Department

The Special Program Implementation Department will be in charge of carrying out this program. It has been proposed to hire 30 Fellows in the aforementioned fields. The G.O released in this regard said that of the 30, 24 Fellows will be involved in thematic monitoring and evaluation of sectoral programs (two Fellows for each theme) and six Fellows will be participating in Special Program Implementation Department Monitoring Cell.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Fellowship Program: Age restrictions

The applicant’s age should be between 22 and 30 years old. Applicants from the SC/ST category would have a maximum age limit of 35 years, while candidates from the BC/MBC category will have a maximum age limit of 33 years.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Fellowship Program: Criteria

A candidate must have a first-class bachelor’s degree in professional courses (engineering, medicine, law, agriculture, or veterinary science) or a first-class master’s degree in arts or science from any of the universities. Ph.D. candidates would be preferred. Work experience would be advantageous, and working understanding of Tamil is required.

Selected fellows to be paid Rs 50,000 each month

The scheme would be implemented between 2022 and 2024 at a cost of Rs 5.66 crore. Rs 41.75 lakh has been budgeted for this fiscal year. The government would provide the selected Fellows with a monthly pay of Rs 50,000. In addition, they will also be paid a supplementary allowance of Rs 10,000 to cover incidental expenditures.
