The life story of Yoga Guru Swami Sivananda

Swami Sivananda was born on August 8, 1896, in the Sylhet region (now in Bangladesh) of undivided India. During his childhood, his destitute parents could only offer him boiled rice water due to their extreme poverty. He lost both his parents when he was six years old.

Following the final rites, he was taken to his Guruji’s Ashram in Nabadwip, West Bengal. Guru Omkarananda Goswami raised him and provided him with complete practical and spiritual education, including Yoga, without the school education. Throughout his life, he has been an optimistic thinker. The yoga guru believes, ‘The world is my home, its inhabitants are my fathers and mothers, and loving and serving
them is my religion’.

Swami Sivananda: Epitome of Humility and simplicity

Swami Sivananda has devoted his life to the betterment of mankind. His modest techniques of living a disciplined and well-regulated life with early morning Yoga, an oil-free boiled food, and selfless devotion to mankind in his own way have given him the longest life free of sickness and strain. Rather than preaching, he uses his own life as an example.
