Thousands of children live on the streets, performing non-formal work and begging to earn a living. These children live in a perilous situation on city streets, without enough and appropriate adult protection, education, or health care. These children face a severe risk of exploitation on the streets. All the children have the right to go to school and sleep in a secure environment. To offer these homeless children an opportunity to stand on their own feet, the Delhi government has formed a field task force.

The task force will focus on identifying homeless children and offering educational, financial, and guardianship help. With a thorough plan to restore dignity to the lives of these children, the task force will be working on the rehabilitation of homeless children.

Helping street children to get back on their feet

Salaam Balak Trust and Youth Reach have joined forces to establish a project with the Delhi Dialogue and Development Commission (DDCD) and the Delhi Commission for Child Rights (DCPCR). They’ll work together to help street kids get back on their feet.

Aims to provide the homeless with opportunities

The task force’s major goal will be to find homeless children and provide them with educational, financial, and guardianship opportunities. The Delhi government has created a comprehensive strategy to restore dignity in the lives of homeless children, including a budget allocation of Rs 10 crore for the construction of residential schools for them.

Five-pillar of the rehabilitation plan

The field task force will be made up of caseworkers and counselors who will be assigned to each district. They’ll collaborate closely with the Committee on Child Welfare. The task group will work on a five-pillar rehabilitation plan.
1) Education and Vocational Training
2) Medical support and counseling
3) Financial support
4) Guardianship
5) Home facilities for children

Taskforce to work on phases

The formation of this task force, according to DDCD Vice President Jasmine Shah, will allow us to make progress in the right direction by emphasizing the essential requirements of homeless children, such as education, financial assistance, and guardianship. This task force will operate in phases, with the South and South-East areas being the first to be chosen in the first phase.
