India, more than any other country in the world, is committed to green energy, according to Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
Green hydrogen, biofuel blending, and biofuel exploration and production from alternative sources, he said, are all being prioritized.
Green hydrogen revolution
Puri predicted that India would eventually lead the green hydrogen revolution. The target of 20% ethanol blend has been pushed forward from 2030 to 2025, he said, and he believes it will be met.
Puri, who is also the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, said that when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, India responded quickly and effectively, with one of the most important decisions being to accelerate vaccine development and manufacturing on a war footing.
“Whatever vaccine manufacturing capacity India had previously was almost completely dismantled during the 2004-2014 period,” Puri said, emphasising that one of the most important factors is the availability of vaccines.
The minister stated that he does not want to appear political in this matter.”While we’ve seen pandemics before, this Covid-19 pandemic was more reminiscent of Spanish Flu in terms of the amount of devastation it caused around the world,” he said.
Puri also discussed various transformational changes that occurred after 2014 during the Narendra Modi government during a session on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2022 here.
Industry body CII and Indiaspora hosted a breakfast session on “Unleashing the Power of the Indian Diaspora for Philanthropy, Entrepreneurship, and Social Impact.”
