Concerning FM broadcasting
FM broadcasting is a type of radio transmission that uses frequency modulation to transmit information (FM). It was invented in 1933 by American engineer Edwin Armstrong. Wide-band FM is utilised all around the world to provide high-fidelity sound over broadcast radio. The fidelity of FM broadcasting is higher. The majority of general audio and music broadcasts take place on FM. Radio stations that broadcast on FM employ a fairly wide spectrum of radio frequencies.
India’s FM broadcasting
FM broadcasting began in India in 1977. However, it took off after India began privatising FM radio in 2001. All India Radio’s FM LRS (Local Radio Station) was launched on July 1, 2001. It was installed at a frequency of 100.5 MHz in Kodaikanal. Because of its elevation of 2200 meters above mean sea level, this canal had a radius of roughly 200 kilometers. In India, there are currently about 369 operational commercial radio stations spread throughout 101 cities and towns. Around 450 FM stations make up All India Radio. It encompasses 39% of India’s land area and 52% of its population.
FM’s History in India
FM broadcasting in India began in 1977 from Chennai , but took off after 2001, when FM radio was privatised. On July 1, 2001, at 14:28 hours in Kodaikanal, AIR’s FM LRS (Local Radio Station) was launched on the frequency 100.5 MHz. In just two months, Dr.Musiri.T.A.Veerasamy and B.Rajaram (Savitraa), two radio personalities, made 100.5 popular and the LRS was promoted to a ” METRO FM ” channel. Because of its location at 2200 meters above mean sea level in Kodaikanal, the waterway covered a radius of nearly 200 kilometers. Later, legends such as Supra (K. Natarajan) and Maha Somaskandamoorthy joined KODAI FM in 2002 and 2003, respectively. In terms of area coverage and listenership, it is India’s largest single FM station.
