INDIA SUCCESSFULLY TEST-FIRES THE NEW VERSION OF BRAHMOS SUPERSONIC CRUISE MISSILE

Highlights-

  • India and Russia have jointly built BrahMos.
  • Both the countries are also working together on the campaign to update it.
  • The goal of the new version is to improve the impact of BrahMos to hit the target.
The modified version of the BrahMos missile was successfully tested by the DRDO recently. The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile has undergone numerous modifications to make it more powerful than before, which appear to be effective. BrahMos Aerospace, in collaboration with the DRDO, launched the missile from the Chandipur range near Balasore, Odisha. During this time, the missile accomplished all of the previously set targets.

Outfitted with indigenous technologies

During the launch, the missile hit the target of maximum range at its fastest speed. The missile was outfitted with several indigenous technologies. India has made numerous changes to it in response to its needs. This test was monitored using cutting-edge technology such as telemetry, radar, and an electro-optical tracking system.

Successfully test-fired

The DRDO stated, “On January 20, a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile with increased indigenous content and improved performance was successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.” Brahmos Aerospace carried out the launch in close collaboration with DRDO teams. “In this textbook flight, the missile followed the predicted trajectory and accomplished all mission objectives.”

Collaboratively made by India and Russia

BrahMos missiles are designed, developed, and manufactured by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture company established by India and Russia. The test was conducted by the DRDO on behalf of India and the NPOM on behalf of Russia. BrahMos was built collaboratively by India and Russia. Both countries are also working together to update it.

Journey of BrahMos missiles

The initial version Brahmos was tested for the first time in 2001. Since then, several types of BrahMos have been developed and successfully tested, including those that can be fired from land, warships, submarines, and Sukhoi-30 fighter jets.

Air version of BrahMos

The Air version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired from the Indian Air Force’s frontline fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30 MKI on December 8, last year, clearing the system for serial production within the country.
