Google posted an animated slideshow to commemorate the anniversary in a unique way, transporting viewers around the world and providing a glimpse into the daily lives of women from various countries.

Each picture portrayed in today’s Doodle, from a working mother to a motorbike mechanic to a wildlife photographer, is linked by the common thread of how women take care of themselves, their families, and their communities, as created by Doodle Art Director Thoka Maer.
“I want all women to be free to fully choose the lives they want to live and receive all the respect they deserve,” she said in a message to all women throughout the world. For her children, a stay-at-home mom creates the entire world. A CEO fosters innovation while also keeping her people engaged and pleased. Strangers love the wandering artist, who revels in her independence. Whether it’s driving a truck, campaigning for women’s rights, going to school, or preparing a meal, there’s something for everyone. We all have a mission, no matter how great or tiny, when we wake up in the morning. It’s all important.”
International Women’s Day is a worldwide celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments. The day also serves as a call to action for achieving gender parity sooner rather than later.
Theme for International Women’s Day
The United Nations’ theme for International Women’s Day this year is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow,” which encourages women and girls to have a voice and participate equally in decision-making on climate change and sustainability, with the message, “Without gender equality today, a sustainable future, and an equal future remain beyond our reach.”
