The ‘Relief Riders’ are back on the road, pedaling across the city to bring medicines and critical commodities to individuals in need, including older residents who are stranded at home and unable to buy things.
Delivering medicines
During the second wave, when the state government imposed a complete lockdown, a group of bicycles began offering delivery services. Volunteers from Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Cyberabad are connected to them. The cyclists’ group has resumed services two weeks ago, with Covid-19 numbers climbing once more.
“We’re mostly bringing medicines and necessary supplies to older residents and others who are isolated and without help,” said Ravi Sambari, who co-founded the programme with Santhana Selvan, Hyderabad’s “cycling mayor.” Every day, the organisation receives about 20 inquiries from places like Gachibowli, Kondapur, Sainikpuri, and Alwal.
How do they work?
“We’ve been getting requests for medicine delivery for their parents in Hyderabad from children living in the United States.” “We post these requests on our WhatsApp groups, and people step up to help,” Sambari, a logistics firm director, said.
Heart touching story
“I was in severe need of medicines for my mother, who was on oxygen.” One of my friends told me about the ‘Relief Riders’ at that time. Satyam, a student, stated, “I approached them, and one of them came to my doorway and gave the medicines.”
