CENTRE LAUNCHES WELFARE SCHEMES IN HEALTH, EDUCATION, AND HOUSING SECTOR TO UPLIFT THE DE-NOTIFIED AND NOMADIC TRIBE

Highlights-

  • The Centre announced an umbrella initiative to benefit the de-notified and nomadic tribe community.
  • The scheme focuses on the education, healthcare, and housing sector.

The De-notified tribes, nomadic tribes, and semi-nomadic tribes are among the most neglected, marginalized, and economically deprived communities, with the majority living in poverty. To empower such communities, the central government has launched a welfare scheme to support them in the education, housing, and health sector.

The Centre announced an umbrella initiative to ensure that the benefits of its programs in education, healthcare, and housing reaches across the country’s denotified, nomadic, and semi-nomadic tribes.
Intends to provide economic empowerment

The government intends to provide free coaching for civil services examinations, competitive exams for admission to professional courses, health insurance, livelihood support, and housing under the scheme for economic empowerment of De-notified Tribes (DNTs), Semi-nomadic Tribes (SNTs), and Nomadic Tribes (NTs) – SEED.

Helpful in the education sector

The free coaching program is designed to prepare the students for competitive exams and open doors in fields such as medical, engineering, and business administration as well as other sectors. “In five years, this segment will give free coaching to about 6,250 students.” A total of Rs 50 crore would be invested over these years, according to an official release.

Health and Housing sector

The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana would cover 4,44,500 families for five years at a cost of Rs 49 crore under the health insurance plan.
Housing is scarce for denotified tribes. To meet the community’s housing needs the government has recommended allocating a special budget for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). In five years, about 4,200 houses will be built under this initiative.

Small step toward growth and development

Virendra Kumar, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, launched a dedicated portal to ensure easy registration to receive benefits under the scheme. It would also serve as a repository for data on these communities.

“This initiative is the first small step toward growth and development, but it will not be the last for these areas that have been exposed to neglect and apathy for many years,” Says Virendra Kumar Singh.
