Vehicles for Garbage Collection
Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, had flagged off 4,097 rubbish collection vehicles to start the programme. Garbage collection from rural houses had reached 22% by November 2021. It had risen to 61.50 percent by January 2022.
Several Gram Panchayat officials have already posted photographs of garbage-free rural streets and roadways on social media. Gram Panchayat will meet all of the CLAP program’s objectives, including 100% rural household rubbish collection.
CLAP’s Objectives
Apart from door-to-door garbage collection, the CLAP initiative aimed to separate liquid and solid waste, encourage home composting, and onsite waste treatment. It also aims to eliminate open defecation in rural regions.
The ODF (Open Defecation Free) campaign
More than 13,000 sarpanches have been given explicit orders to lead the ODF campaign from the front and guarantee that their villages are ODF as well. By the end of 2022, it hopes to obtain ODF Plus accreditation. By the end of 2022, the government of Andhra Pradesh wants the state to be litter-free and garbage-free.

“ODF plus village” refers to a village that maintains its ODF status, manages solid and liquid waste, and is visually clean.
Who will be in charge of the sanitation campaign?
Prior to the commencement of the CLAP campaign, UNICEF WASH held an online training programme on sanitation for nearly 13,000 sarpanches and 1,200 district and mandal officials (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene). The campaign will be carried out by gram panchayat workers and officials, members of village and ward secretariats, health workers, and members of Zilla and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies.
