What is in the News?

Smt Nirmala Sitaraman, the finance minister, declared during the budget presentation that the KAVACH technology will improve the safety of Indian railways. The railroads have been given a budget of Rs. 1,37,000 crores. The government plans to launch 400 Vande Bharat trains in addition to Kavach technology. These trains will cover a distance of 2000 kilometers. To assist local businesses, the government will also create the "One Station, One Product" scheme.

What is KAVACH technology?

It is an anti – collision system. It was created by indigenous people. It has SIL4 certification. India's goal of zero accidents will be aided by technology. When the train detects another train on the same track within a certain distance, the system will automatically stop it. In addition, if the technology detects a manual error, the train will be stopped by the technology.

Previous budget

The Railways have received Rs. 20,000 crores more than in the previous budget i.e. 2021-22.

Working of KAVACH

The trains' speed is increased as a result of the technology. Trains near crossing stations are slowed by the drivers. Usually, this is done to avoid colliding with other trains at the station. This causes travelers’ travelling times to be delayed. Even if there are no stops in the station, the train is forced to slow down. With KAVACH technology, such delays can be eliminated.

Budget allocations for other railways

Along with KAVACH technology, One Station One Product was launched. This will primarily benefit the transportation of local products. The Dedicated Freight Corridor has been allocated Rs. 15,710 crores. Track renewal received Rs. 13, 335 crores, while new lines received Rs. 25,243 crores.
