The government has unveiled a new doorstep crop insurance distribution policy known as ‘Meri Policy Mere Hath’ as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) reaches its seventh year of implementation in the upcoming Kharif season.
Aim of the Campaign
The ‘Meri Policy Mere Hath’ door-to-door campaign aims to ensure that all farmers are well-informed on their policies, land records, and the claim and grievance redressal process under the PMFBY, according to the Agriculture Ministry.
According to the government, the doorstep campaign will be launched in all implementing states during the upcoming Kharif season. PMFBY was established in February 2016 with the goal of providing financial assistance to farmers who have lost crops due to natural disasters.
Launching of the Campaign
The doorstep campaign would be launched in all implementing states during the forthcoming Kharif season, which begins in June.
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
PMFBY was established in February 2016 with the goal of giving financial support to those farmers who have suffered crop damage or loss due to natural catastrophes. Over 36 million farmer applications have been covered through this scheme as of February 4, 2022, with over Rs 1,07,059 crores in claims paid.
Because small and marginal farmers account for 85 percent of the farmers registered under this plan, the scheme has been able to provide financial assistance to the most vulnerable farmers.
