T20I: Deepak Hooda, 4th Indian to score century and recorded highest partnership with Sanju Samson

Deepak Hooda has written his name into the records books with a sensational century against Ireland in the second match of the series on June 28 at the Malahide Cricket Club. Hooda hit his first century in any form of international cricket in 55 balls. The duo of Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson attained a record for India, stitching the highest partnership for any wicket in the shortest format of the game.
Hooda’s efforts have made him just the fourth Indian player in history to surpass the 100-run mark in the shortest format of the game.

List of Indian players to score T20I century

• Suresh Raina
• Rohit Sharma
• KL Rahul
• Deepak Hooda

Rohit has four tons in T20I cricket while Rahul has reached the milestone twice. Raina’s sole T20I ton which came against South Africa in the 2010 T20 WC was the first-ever by an Indian in the shortest format.

Highest partnership in the history of T20 cricket

Together with Sanju Samson, Hooda put up a 176-run partnership for the second wicket. In T20 cricket history, this is India’s highest-scoring partnership. Samson, who replaced the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad in the playing XI, hit his first half-century in the shortest format with a magnificent knock of 77 in only 42 balls. For a 57-ball total, Hooda was discharged shortly after achieving his century.

Highest partnership for any wicket for India in T20Is

  • 176 Samson – Hooda 2nd wkt vs Ire Dublin 2022
  • 165 Rohit – Rahul 1st wkt vs SL Indore 2017
  • 160 Rohit – Shikhar 1st wkt vs Ire Dublin 2018
  • 158 Rohit – Shikhar 1st wkt vs NZ Delhi 2017

This ton continues Hooda’s rapid resurgence in 2022. Earlier in 2022, he made his ODI and T20I debut for India in the home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka respectively. Later after being purchased for Rs. 5.75 crore by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL mega auction, Hooda had a memorable season in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) in which he made 451 runs in 15 games.

The batting all-rounder started the series with a match-winning knock of 47 in just 29 balls in the series opener. India finished their innings in the second game with a score of 227 on the board.
