The World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will provide a loan of Rs 7,500 crore to the Gujarat government’s Mission School of Excellence project.
Overview:
• A World Bank committee came to Gandhinagar to collect data and research the School of Excellence project.
• Jaime Saavedra, the bank’s Global Education Director, headed the delegation.
• The team also paid a visit to the command and control centre of the state’s education department.
About the command and control centre
The command and control centre, which was recently launched, is an interactive platform used by the state’s education department to monitor quality of education and the attendance of the teachers and students. E-learning initiatives are also provided to schools through this centre.
About Mission School of Excellence Project
This project attempts to improve the state’s educational quality. Gujarat’s state government intends to spend Rs 10,000 crore over the next five years on this project. This mission will cover all of the state’s 5,847 grant-in-aid and 35,133 government schools. The multilingual manner of instruction will also be prioritised. These schools’ deserving kids will likewise be acknowledged and supported.
What will the funds be used for?
The funding will be used to develop 20,000 new computer laboratories, 50,000 additional classrooms, and 5,000 tinkering labs in Gujarat’s 41,000 grant-in-aid and government schools. In the next five years, this programme will help around one crore school students.
