Earlier people have to leave their pets on neighbours house or they have to think about their pet before going to somewhere far but now they don’t have to think much. Now people can carry their pets along with them in flights wherever they go. Akasa Air will now be the second Indian airline to allow passengers to bring their pets onboard.
The airline will allow “domesticated dogs and cats” in both the passenger and cargo cabins. However, only small pets weighing up to seven kilogrammes are permitted to enter the passenger cabin after check-in at the airport. Animals weighing more than seven kilogrammes and up to 100 kilogrammes will be transported in the cargo compartment.
Bookings for pets will begin on October 15 for flights beginning on November 1. The weight limit includes the weight of the ventilated container in which they are transported.
“This is phase-1 of our launch, and progressively you will see us enhance our pet policy,” said Praveen Iyer, co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Akasa Air.
The airline has also collaborated with the NGO Umeed for Animals Foundation to incorporate industry best practises for animal carriage and to assist pet parents and pets in preparing for air travel.
Pets of weight less than 5 kg will be allowed
Air India allows up to two pets per flight. Dogs, cats, and birds are among them. They cannot, however, weigh more than 5 kg. Pets must be muzzled and restrained. Excess baggage fees are frequently levied by airlines for transporting pets, but some, such as Air India, waive the fee for service dogs used by differently abled passengers. Service dogs are not required to be kept in kennels and are permitted to accompany passengers with impaired vision and hearing. SpiceXpress, SpiceJet’s cargo arm, also transports pets as cargo.
The conditions of carriage are as per the worldwide standard for transporting live animals by commercial animals known as Live Animals Regulations developed by global airlines body International Air Transport Association.
