Kerala launches robotic scavenger to clean sewages in Guruvayur

By putting the mechanical scavenger Bandicoot into duty in the temple town of Guruvayur, Kerala became the initial state in the nation to deploy robotics innovation for clearing all of its commissioned manholes.

As part of the State Government’s 100-day action plan, Kerala Water Authority (KWA) inducts Bandicoot into the Guruvayur Sewerage Project. Linking residences, motels, and other enterprises to the sewerage network is known as manhole commissioning.

Bandicoot, created by Kerala-based Genrobotics, has already replaced the tradition of sanitation personnel physically accessing manholes in urban areas nationwide. The Kerala Startup Mission’s Huddle Global 2022 summit recently recognized Genrobotics with the “Kerala Pride” award.

An innovative manhole cleaning system

All of the manholes that were in service before the deployment of the Bandicoot have undergone a robotic revolution. For the robotic cleaning procedure at Guruvayur, a special team of KWA employees will be assembled. According to the Minister, improving the sewer systems will aid in reducing the development of diseases and the severe health issues they bring about.

The state of Kerala has adopted the smart manhole cleaning system, according to Vimal Govind, Director of Genrobotic Innovations; Bandicoot will be washing all the authorized sewers and open drains in Kerala.

The world’s first mechanical scavenger, Bandicoot, was created by Genrobotics, a firm, to replace manual scouring and give staff involved in manhole cleanup a break.

As a component of the state government’s 100-day implementation plan, Kerala Water Authority (KWA) deployed Bandicoot as part of the Guruvayur Sewerage Project in the Thrissur district. Water Resources Minister Roshi Augustine.

According to a press release, Bandicoot’s main robotic component, the Tron Unit, penetrates manholes and removes wastewater using robotic hands that resemble human limbs. The gadget also contains sensors that may identify dangerous gases inside the manhole covers and waterproof HD vision cameras.

A dedicated team of KWA employees will carry out the operation of robotic cleansing in Guruvayur. The minister stated that sewage system organization would help prevent the spread of diseases and other major health hazards they represent.

Vimal Govind M K, the head of Genrobotic Innovations, gave a presentation on the innovation during the event hosted in P Krishna Pillai Square in this city.

He claimed that Bandicoot would clean Kerala’s commission sewers and drainage systems. Bandicoot robots are being used in a few towns. They are being used in 17 states and around three UTs in India.

KWA has started using Bandicoot in Thiruvananthapuram in 2018 to clean manholes. According to the statement, it was later implemented in Ernakulam as well. The world’s first robotic scavenging, Bandicoot, was created by Technopark-based Genrobotics in an effort to do away with manual searching and give manhole cleaners a break.
