Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the vision of more production in less water to make the farmers of the country prosperous. Dr. Ajay Prakash Agarwal, Chief Scientist of the Wheat and Barley Research Project in Central India, has got success in this. He has prepared a new variety of wheat, which will give three quintals more and better quality than the average production in the whole of Central India on 18 cm of water instead of just 50 percent i.e. 36.
There are wheat and barley research centers at 33 places in the country. In these, research is being done on high-quality and low-cost varieties at the local level. CG 1040 has been researched by Dr. Agarwal, an expert for the Central India region from Indira Gandhi Agricultural College, Bilaspur. This is the best quality so far in less water in the data obtained in these two years. Fulfills the vision of the Central Government. The special feature of this variety is that it will give better quality and 43 per hectare i.e. three quintals more production than the DBW 110 variety of this class. It will be registered in the next meeting of the All India Coordinated Research Project to be held in August.
Irrigation will have to be done only 3 times rather than 6 times
Other varieties of wheat require 36 cm of water in the entire crop cycle. This is done 6 times in the ratio of 6-6 cm. First irrigation is given immediately after sowing, then irrigation is given at 20, 40, 60, 80 days interval, whereas Chhg 1040 needs half that i.e. 18 cm of water. Irrigation will have to be done only three times in the interval of 0, 20, and 40 days in the ratio of 6-6 cm.
Research results take 8 to 10 years to come
Dr. Ajay Prakash Agarwal came to Bilaspur in 2008. After this, in follow-up research, he worked on a variety named Ratan. After its success, research started on other varieties of wheat. After 10 years his results started coming. So far he has given 7 new varieties for central India. The 8th variety Chhg 1040 is also completely successful.
