GODI became first Indian company to get BIS certification for made-in-India Li-ion cells

GODI India announced on July 6 that it is the first company in the India to receive Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for its 21700 cylindrical NMC811 lithium-ion cells. According to the company, the in-house designed and manufactured in India cells were tested and qualified by third-party testing agency TUV in accordance with BIS requirements. The company also revealed that it will build a gigafactory for battery cell manufacturing in India by 2024.
Lithium-ion battery-based storage solutions will gain prominence and localisation of tailor made cells for Indian conditions will play a vital role, both for automotive and energy storage applications (ESS), says Mahesh Godi, Founder and CEO, GODI India.

Cylindrical cells were made-in-India & Made-for-India

“For the first time in Indian history, NMC811 21700, 3.65V-4.5Ah cylindrical cells were made-in-India & Made-for-India.”
GODI India claims that its BIS-certified lithium-ion cells save its customers 7% on costs. It claims to collaborate closely with research institutes and other government agencies to maintain quality standards.

Newest technology with zero carbon emission

The company further states that it works with 30+ in-house scientists (PhDs) and engineers. It further points to the manufacturing facility which will have the newest tech, including carbon-neutral processes, powered by renewables.
“Sensing the need (for lithium-ion manufacturing), we are setting up our first indigenous giga-factory for lithium-ion cell manufacturing in India by 2024. The new factory will play the role of vitalising the EVs and Stationary Storage industry in India and we will put all our efforts into making the plant sustainable battery cells with a minimal carbon footprint and CO2 emissions,” Godi said.
“Our newly developed lithium-ion cell (4.5Ah capacity) with an energy density of 235 Wh/kg has a longer range that meets our customer demands.”
