22-year-old Ayush Badoni, a Delhi batsman, took the Indian Premier League by storm, demonstrating his poise and class with a fifty for Lucknow Super Giants in their debut encounter of IPL 2022 against fellow newcomers Gujarat Titans.

Ayush Badoni has limited T20 experience, having scored just 8 runs before his IPL debut on 23rd March 2022. He had no first-class or List A experience, and his most recent competitive appearance was in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year. Despite impressing for India at the U19 level, making 200 runs at the U19 Asia Cup in 2018 and a spectacular 185 in a Youth Test against Sri Lanka, Ayush was unable to make an impact on the domestic scene in Delhi.
The pocket-sized big-hitting batter, on the other hand, was no unknown quantity to Lucknow’s scouting team and management. Tarak Sinha, the renowned Delhi coach who had earlier worked with Rishabh Pant, had developed Ayush Badoni.
Lucknow Super Giants’ AB Baby
Ayush Badoni repaid the Lucknow Super Giants’ faith in him by hitting 54 runs off just 41 balls, including sixes against Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan and Lockie Ferguson. When LSG were reeling at 29/4 after a brilliant Mohammed Shami performance, he joined Deepak Hooda. Badoni, on the other hand, took his time and waited for Hooda to finish his fifty before attacking the GT bowlers.
