Bharath Subramaniyam, 14, became India’s 73rd chess Grandmaster on January 9, 2022.
At an event in Cattolica, Italy, he earned his third and final Grandmaster norm.

Bharath has six victories

Bharath finished the season with six victories and one tie. He was defeated by Korobov and Lalith Babu in both games.

When did Bharath won first GM norm?

After placing 11th position he earned his first GM norm in the Aeroflot Open in Moscow in February 2020. In October 2021, he won his second GM norm at the Junior Roundtable Under 21 tournament in Bulgaria. With 6.5 points, he came in fourth place.

What steps does a player need to take to become a Grandmaster (GM)?

A player must achieve three GM norms and a live rating of 2,500 Elo points in order to become a GM.
