Priyanka Sharma has broken the glass ceiling by becoming the first female bus driver in Uttar Pradesh. She was one of 26 female drivers hired by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).

Priyanka told ANI about her struggles, saying that her husband died early in their marriage due to excessive drinking, leaving her to raise her two children alone.
Priyanka says, “In 2016, I joined Sanjay Gandhi Transport as a helper & later learned to drive there. In 2020, CM Yogi Adityanath took out recruitment for women drivers, so I filled the form for it. I got recruited in 2022, took training & joined from Sept 1”.

ANI quoted Priyanka as saying, “After my husband died, I was solely responsible for raising my children. I relocated to Delhi in search of better opportunities. Initially, I worked as a helper in a factory. However, I later became a driver. I moved to Mumbai after taking a driving course and travelled to different states such as Bengal and Assam.”

Priyanka Sharma thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for giving women drivers a chance. She had completed a form in 2020. She then completed her training in May and was assigned in September.
