UPSC 2023: Odisha Man Who Lost His Mother Last Month Secures 2nd Place

UPSC 2023: In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Animesh Pradhan, a 24-year-old native of Bhalugadia village in Angul district, Odisha, achieved an extraordinary feat. Despite the emotional turmoil caused by the recent loss of his mother to cancer, Animesh secured the All India second rank in the UPSC 2023 Civil Services Examination.

A Journey of Grit and Dedication

Animesh, an engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, had been preparing diligently for the UPSC interview round when tragedy struck. His mother, who had been battling cancer, passed away last month. Yet, Animesh persevered, driven by his childhood dream of becoming an IAS officer. His parents, unfortunately, did not live to witness his remarkable achievement.

Animesh’s mother was his unwavering source of motivation. Her encouragement and belief in his abilities fueled his determination. Despite the emotional and physical challenges posed by his mother’s illness, Animesh remained steadfast. He did not attend any classroom coaching but instead relied on online mock tests and mentorship programs.

A Record-Breaking Achievement for Odisha

Animesh’s success is not an isolated incident. Odisha set a new record with 18 candidates making it to the final list of 1,016 qualifiers in the Civil Services Exam. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated all the successful candidates, emphasizing their role in taking welfare initiatives to the grassroots.

His father, a principal, had also passed away in 2015. Animesh’s journey exemplifies the power of determination, will, and purpose.

Words of Wisdom

Speaking from New Delhi, Animesh shared his philosophy: “If you progress towards your goal with determination and have a strong will to succeed, you can achieve your goal.” His story serves as an inspiration to countless aspirants, reminding us that adversity can be overcome with unwavering resolve.

Congratulations to Animesh Pradhan and all the successful candidates from Odisha. May their bright careers continue to make a positive impact on society.
