History of the old age library

In 1978 a small library was constructed on 100 square yard plot in Punjab’s village in Bathinda district. The library was created with voluntary funds.The library was comprised of one big hall and an adjoining room.They started with few books on communist movements, novels by Punjabi writers and some newspapers so that; people can gather and love reading. The library was inaugurated and few books were added time to time. The new building is now called ShaheedBhagat Singh Library, Jeeda.

Books in the library

Books of the author JanwantKanawal, Gurdial Singh, SaadatHasanManto. The almirahs have books on history, religion and mythology. With the change in time, the library has been upgraded and the villagers are very happy with this upgradation and now also be screening meaninglul films through projector in the second hall.

KewalKrishanSingla had contributed Rs 15 lakh to library who was a book lover and a retired government employee.This library was started with 500 books and now it has over 2000 books. Jagmel says “we hope it attracts more youngsters and people from everywhere, and not just this village.”
