SWACHH SURVEKSHAN 2021: THE CLEANEST CITIES OF THE COUNTRY

“Cleanliness is next to Godliness” the most famous quote of the great leader Mahatma Gandhi . The quote directly resembles the importance of cleanliness in one’s life. And to measure the cities status in the scale of cleanliness the survey has been conducted. On 20th December, President Ram Nath Kovind honored 342 urban areas that have been given star rating and ranking for being trash free in ‘Swachh Survekshan 2021’. The occasion to congratulate the urban areas, ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’ is being coordinated by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MOHUA). It was organized at Vigyan Bhawan situated at the nation’s capital, New Delhi.

Furthermore, this occasion aimed to honor sanitation workers by perceiving top performing urban areas under the ‘SafaiMitra Suraksha Challenge’. It is a first drive by the service to advance motorized cleaning of septic tanks and fend off ‘hazardous cleaning’ in which a person enters them.

The ministry talks
According to the ministry going back to the year 2016, from surveying 73 major cities. This year, 4,320 cities participated actively in the 6th edition of Swachh Survekshan 2021. It has become the world’s largest survey on urban cleanliness. “The success of this year’s survey can be gauged through the unprecedented number of citizen feedback received this year – over 5 crores, a marked increase from last year’s 1.87 crores. The 2021 edition was conducted in record time of 28 days despite several on-ground challenges owing to the COVID pandemic,” it added.
