What is in News ?

Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Education Minister Jitu Vaghani announced the launch of the “Student Start-up and Innovation Policy (SSIP) 2.0” on January 5, 2022.

What was the motivation for the launch of SSIP 2.0?

At the International Conference of Academic Institutions, SSIP 2.0 was introduced with the goal of financially helping school students in their pursuit of innovation (ICAI-2022).
ICAI 2022 is a pre-vibrant summit that took place on January 5, 2022 in Science City.

Any person under the age of 35 who is a school student, a vocational, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctorate student, or an alumna, alumnus, or any dropout from an institute, university, or school can benefit from the SSIP 2.0 guidelines.

The state government intends to construct functional innovation and incubation centres at all of the state’s institutions as part of it.

SSIP 2.0’s vision

SSIP 2.0 is being launched with the goal of achieving Aatmanirbhar Gujarat through sustainable development and equitable growth.

The Importance of SSIP 2.0

Because there are so many inventions done by school kids, SSIP 2.0 is significant. They do not, however, have a platform to display their talents. The new programme would provide financial support for such ideas, as well as assistance in getting them from “mind to market.”

Financial Assistance

According to the guidelines of SSIP 2.0, a maximum of Rs 20,000 per proof of concept/prototype/innovation for classes 9-12 would be awarded at the school level, with the goal of “grabbing them young.”
Support will also be provided for collective/community-level support systems, as well as activities for others, as well as large-scale sensitization, programmes, and events aimed at developing a scientific attitude.

SSIP 1.0 vs. SSIP 2.0: What’s the Difference?

In comparison to SSIP 1.0, the reach of SSIP 2.0 has risen fivefold. SSIP 1.0 benefited 10 lakh students in higher and technical education institutions, whereas SSIP 2.0 will benefit 50 lakh students.
School pupils account for 35 lakh of the 50 lakh students, while students from further and technical education institutions account for the remainder. For the next five years, SSIP 1.0 had set aside Rs 100 crore (2017-21). The overall financial support for SSIP 2.0 has been enhanced to Rs 500 crore over a five-year period.
