They tracked down the family members of that poor hawker and paid the money with the interest.

The story behind the ‘Peanut Debt’

The story began in the year 2010. Nemani Pranav, his sister Suchita, and their father Mohan had gone to U Kothapalli beach in Andhra Pradesh. Where they bought peanuts from a groundnut vendor named Sattaya. However, Mohan soon realized that he had forgotten his wallet and had no money to give to the peanut vendor.

Sattaya, on the other hand, did not force for the money and instead offered them free peanuts. But Mohan promised to repay the money as quickly as possible. He also took a picture of Sattaya to remember his face. However, he was unable to keep his pledge to pay back the debt on time. He had to return to America after a few days of the trip because he was an NRI.

Fulfilled his promise after 12 years

Nemani and his sister Suchita returned to India after almost 12 years. On returning, they decided to track down the peanut hawker and clear his debt which he gave him years ago. Their father, Mohan was also very keen to return the money to the peanut seller. To track down Sattaya, they enlisted the assistance of Kakinada city MLA Chandrashekhar Reddy.

Following Mohan’s request, the MLA immediately put a message on Facebook in search of Sattaya. After this, some residents of his hometown of Nagulapally contacted the MLA’s PA and informed him that Sattaya had passed away. Nemani and Suchita decided to provide Rs.25,000 to their family in such a predicament.

Returned the amount with interest

According to a report, the siblings took a debt of Rs.25 in the year 2010. Years later after tracking down the vendor’s family, they paid back 25 thousand rupees instead of 25 rupees for peanuts.
