Gujarat is set to host the Yogasana Nationals after being included in the newly announced KhelMahakumbh 2022. The first-ever Senior National Yogasana Championship in India will be held in Ahmedabad on March 30 and 31.

The National Yogasana Sports Federation will organize the championship. The Gujarat State Yogasana Association (GYSA), in collaboration with the Gujarat Government, will host the event. With a new competition format and a modern design for the country’s Heritage Sport Yogasana, a total of 169 senior Yogasana athletes from 19 states will compete for more than 66 medals, according to the organizers.

India to become a global stage for nurturing Yogasana

PM Modi recently mentioned while addressing the 87th edition of ‘Mann ki Bat’ that today, the collective Indian thought on health, whether it is Yoga or Ayurveda, is progressively trending all over the world. The sports ministry has legally classified yogasana as a competitive sport, and it is now part of the government’s Khelo India project. Further, he added, Gujarat is aiming high in its efforts to create indigenous sports, intending to become the worldwide stage for Yogasana development.

Yogasana, a sport with an Olympic Roadmap

The National Yogasana Sports Federation (recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India) is consistently building a strong culture of fitness, competition, well-being, and growth through the practice and development of Yogasana to support India’s vision of making Yogasana as a sport with an Olympic Roadmap. Yoga has always been associated with wellness, and for our young to understand and appreciate it, Yogasana has been introduced as a sport, similar to other popular sports in India.
