Birthday is the most special day of the year for every individual. Everybody has a different way of celebrating their special day. The little girl from Tamil Nadu celebrated her special day by taking a step towards a greener future and giving life lessons to others. Dobbala Blessy, a girl from Suddala village in Sircilla’s Konaraopet Mandal, Tamil Nadu is all set to make a path to plant a green future.
Blessy celebrated her 8th birthday on 31st January with a twist. Her father accompanied her on her special day. They went into nearby woodland to scatter seed balls in the hopes of a greener tomorrow.
Seed Bank
Blessy from Suddala village, Konaraopet Mandal, Sircilla, has established a seed bank with 65,000 seedlings. Blessy sat down, a day before her birthday and planned her birthday celebrations. After which she formed seed balls out of the mud and stored them to sprinkle them in the nearby forest areas as a part of her birthday celebration.
Dobbala Blessy’s seed bank includes seeds from fruit trees such as mango, custard apple, tamarind, neem, as well as locally available blooming tree species.
Maturity requires no age
Blessy at such a young age is much more mature than many individuals around. At such an early age Blessy understands the importance of trees and plants around us. She acknowledges that we breathe and survive solely because of trees.
In an interview, Blessy stated, “We breathe and survive solely because of trees.” Every day, I pick up fallen seeds wherever I see them and bring them home. My friends sometimes make fun of me. They understand what I’m saying when I explain why I’m doing it.” She further said, “I look around for seeds and pick them up to add to my seed bank if I chance to be standing under a tree,”
Inherited from her father
It is well said that a parent is somehow responsible for what a child thinks or feels about the things around them. Right from the childhood of Blessy, her father Prakruthi Prakash made her realize the importance of greenery in the surrounding.
Blessy felt compelled to do her part when her father, Prakruthi Prakash, highlighted the necessity of planting trees and improving the environment to her. After producing the seed balls, Blessy has already disseminated 30,000 of the seeds she has collected over the last couple of years.
Loves Collecting Seeds
No matter what place Blessy is, her sole center of attention is to always find seeds near her. She enjoys collecting seeds and storing them for a better future.
“Whether she’s playing near the house, at school, or on the street, her sole focus is on finding seeds,” Blessy’s father, Prakruthi Prakash said.
