The Prime Minister’s National Award for Children, commonly known as the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, is a civilian award in India.
It is divided into two groups:
1. The Bal Shakti Puraskar- The puraskar is given to Indian citizens under the age of 18 who have excelled in one of six categories. It was founded in 1996 by the non-profit organisation Indian Council for Child Welfare. Previously, it was known as the “National Child Award.”
2. Bal Kalyan Puraskar- Individuals or organisations who have made remarkable contributions to child protection, child development, or child welfare are given the Bal Kalyan Puraskar. Previously, it was known as the National Child Welfare Awards. In 1979, the Ministry of Women and Child Development established the award.
In 2018, the prizes were renamed and merged to become the “Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.” Ministry of Women and Child Development is in charge of the programme. In the week leading up to India’s Republic Day, the President of India bestows the prize. The recipients are also met by India’s Prime Minister at his home.
