MASCOT ‘PRAKRITI’ LAUNCHED IN INDIA TO SPREAD ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

Bhupendra Yadav, the Union environment minister, launched a mascot named Prakriti on April 5, 2022. This mascot was created with the goal of raising awareness among the people of the country about the minor adjustments that can help the country’s future generations live in a better environment.

Overview:

• With the introduction of the mascot ‘Prakriti,’ another step toward the elimination of single-use plastic has been taken.
• Various more ecological initiatives were announced in along with the unveiling of the mascot.
• By 2022, the government intends to phase out single-use plastic.
• Every year, 3.5 million tonnes of plastic garbage are produced in the country. This pollutes the environment and has a negative impact on the country’s ecosystem.

Other projects that have been initiated

National Dashboard on Elimination of Single-Use Plastic and Plastic Waste Management
This dashboard was created with the goal of bringing together all stakeholders, including the central government, state and local governments, and others, to track progress toward the eradication of single-use plastics and the effective management of plastic trash.

Extended Producer Responsibility Portal for Plastic Packaging

This platform was created to improve traceability, accountability, and transparency, as well as to make it easier for importers, manufacturers, and brand owners to report to EPR Obligations.

Mobile App for Single-Use Plastics Grievance Redressal

This initiative was developed to enable individuals of the country to monitor the sale, manufacture, and use of single-use plastics in their communities and to combat the plastic problem.

Monitoring module for Single-Use Plastics

This was created so that details about the sale, production, and use of single-use plastics in commercial establishments may be tracked at the district level, as well as the implementation of the single-use plastic prohibition.

Production of Graphene from Waste Plastic in the Industrial Sector

This initiative has been launched in order to encourage more businesses to participate in the fight against plastic waste.
