In Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department recently established two women’s safety squads. Each squad will be made up of five Lady Police officers or staff. Inspector Khalida Parveen will be in charge of both squads.

What is the Women Safety Squad’s mission?

The women’s safety squad was formed to assist women in need. Its primary goal is to safeguard the safety of girls at schools, colleges, universities, coaching centres, and other similar settings. During the day, they would be patrolling the entire city, including educational institutions. Institution heads have also been instructed to inform the women’s squad if an incident occurs outside their facilities.

The Move’s Importance

The Srinagar city woman safety squad would make women feel safer. Outside of institutions and coaching centres, a number of young women were harassed. This incident will be put to a halt because a specialized squad will be dispatched. The team will be focused to women’s safety.

Women’s helpline

The Srinagar Police Department has also established a separate women’s helpline. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is dedicated solely to women’s safety concerns.

Background

Following a recent acid attack in Srinagar, the women’s safety team was formed. Both of the girl’s eyes were severely damaged. In a separate instance, two drug pushers assaulted two females, injuring them.
