Sakshi Kochhar, hailing from Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh, has made history by becoming India’s youngest commercial pilot at the remarkable age of 18. Surpassing the previous record held by Maitri Patel, Sakshi’s achievement is a testament to her determination and passion for flying.
Early Life and Education
Growing up in Parwanoo, Sakshi Kochhar showed an early interest in aviation, which blossomed during her 10th grade. She chose Science with Physics and Maths subjects for her 12th standard, laying the foundation for her future career as a pilot. Despite excelling in dance and securing a high rank in a state-level competition, Sakshi temporarily set aside her passion to focus on her senior secondary education at the Government Model Senior Secondary School in Chandigarh.
Pursuing the Dream
Following her 12th grade, Sakshi joined the prestigious Skyline Aviation Club in Mumbai to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a commercial pilot. After completing four months of rigorous theory training, she embarked on an extraordinary journey to the United States for advanced flight training at a designated center, spanning an impressive 8,500 miles.
Obtaining a Commercial Pilot License in the United States is a significant financial investment, but Sakshi’s family wholeheartedly supported her ambitions. Investing approximately Rs 70 lakh, Sakshi is determined to reimburse her parents once she secures a job. With unwavering support from her grandparents, parents, and elder brother, Sakshi expresses her gratitude for their constant encouragement throughout her journey.
