How the flag hoisting on 26 January different from 15 August? Know 3 Key Rules

Independence Day is observed across the country on August 15. At the same time, Republic Day is observed on January 26 to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of India’s Constitution. On these two special days in India, the National Flag is raised. However, there is a distinction to be made between hoisting the flag on Independence Day and Republic Day.

First difference

On August 15th — Independence Day — the flag is pulled up by a rope from below, then opened and hoisted. This is done to commemorate the historical event of August 15, 1947. It is referred to as Flag Hoisting in the constitution. On the other hand, on January 26 — Republic Day — the flag remains tied at the top before being opened and hoisted. It is referred to as Flag Unfurling in the constitution.

Second difference

Because the Indian Constitution did not enter into force on the day India gained independence, the Prime Minister (the head of the Central Government) hoists the flag on August 15. The President (the nation’s constitutional head) did not take office until then. On the other hand, the President addresses the nation on Republic Day. The 26th of January is observed to commemorate the country’s implementation of the Constitution. The constitutional head or the President hoists the flag on this day.

Third difference

On Independence Day, the flag is hoisted from the Red Fort. On Republic Day, the flag is unfurled on the Rajpath at the same time.

As India prepares to mark the 75th anniversary of its independence, the central government has launched a campaign called Har Ghar Tiranga to instil patriotism in all citizens. The campaign is a component of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to fly the national flag in every home. PM Modi has also asked people to change their social media profile pictures to the tricolour.
