For the first time in Chhattisgarh, a government hospital has started offering skin transplant surgery. The facility has been set up at Dau Kalyan Singh (DKS) Government Super Specialty Hospital in Raipur. Till now there is no facility for skin transplants anywhere in the state. One or two private hospitals have got approval for skin transplant, but they have not transplanted one yet.

The surgery is free for patients under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and Dr. Khubchand Baghel Swasthya Sewa Yojana (DrKSBY).
Skin transplants can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including burns, scars, and skin cancers. The surgery involves removing healthy skin from one part of the body and grafting it onto another part of the body that has been damaged.

The skin can be donated by living or deceased donors. Living donors must be a close match to the recipient, while deceased donors can be any age or blood type.

The skin transplant surgery takes about 6 hours. Patients can expect to stay in the hospital for about 5 days. With the help of skin transplant, 50 to 60 per cent burn scars can be removed.

The skin transplant facility at DKS Hospital is expected to benefit thousands of patients in Chhattisgarh. The surgery can help to improve the quality of life for patients who have been disfigured by burns or scars.

Benefits of skin transplant:

• Skin transplant can help to remove up to 60% of burn scars.

• The surgery can help to improve the appearance of the skin and restore self-confidence.

• Skin transplant can also help to improve the function of the skin, such as the ability to sweat and regulate body temperature.
