Honour to PM Narendra Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been honored with the highest awards by Dominica and Guyana for his contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening bilateral ties. India supported Dominica during the pandemic by providing essential assistance. On Wednesday, during the India-CARICOM Summit, Dominica’s President, Sylvanie Burton, presented PM Modi with the “Dominica Award of Honor.”

PM Modi expressed his gratitude

After receiving the honor, PM Modi expressed his gratitude and said the award was not just for him but for the 1.4 billion people of India, their values, and traditions. He highlighted that India and Dominica are both democracies and role models for women’s empowerment, as both nations currently have women serving as Presidents.

PM Modi added that the relationship between India and Dominica is rooted in history and culture. He expressed satisfaction in being able to assist Dominica during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meetings with Leaders

During his visit, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with several leaders, including Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Suriname’s President Chandrikapersad Santokhi, Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Keith Rowley, and Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.

Guyana’s Honor for PM Modi

Guyana also honored PM Modi with its highest national award, the “Order of Excellence.” The award was presented by Guyana’s President, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali. Similarly, Barbados also conferred its highest honor upon the Indian Prime Minister.

These recognitions reflect India’s growing role in global diplomacy and its strong partnerships with Caribbean nations.

Agreements with Guyana

India and Guyana signed 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during PM Modi’s visit. These covered areas such as agriculture, hydrocarbons, defense, pharmaceuticals, and the use of India’s UPI digital payment system in the Caribbean nation.

A key MoU focused on collaboration in the hydrocarbon sector, including sourcing crude oil, natural gas cooperation, and infrastructure development. Another MoU aimed to boost agricultural cooperation by promoting joint activities and exchanging scientific expertise and materials.
