Satyendra Singh Lohiya is currently employed in the GST department in Indore. His journey in para swimming began in 2007, and since then, he has participated in seven national and three international para swimming championships. His dedication has earned him nearly 20 medals, including five gold medals, at the national level.
What makes Satyendra Singh Lohiya’s story truly inspiring is his achievement as Asia’s first differently-abled person to cross the English Channel. On June 24, 2018, in London, he swam a remarkable distance of 36 kilometers in 12 hours and 26 minutes. This feat was accomplished alongside three fellow swimmers, namely Remo Shah from Bengal, Chaitan Rout from Maharashtra, and Jagdish Sandhu from Rajasthan.
In 2019, Satyendra achieved another milestone by successfully crossing the Catalina Channel in the USA, completing the challenging swim in 11 hours and 34 minutes. This accomplishment not only marked his personal triumph but also set an Asian record for the channel crossing.
In 2022, Satyendra Singh Lohiya added another feather to his cap by setting a world record. Braving the chilly waters of the North Channel, he swam 36 kilometers in 14 hours and 39 minutes, making him the first Asian para swimmer to conquer this feat. The North Channel is known for its colder temperature compared to the English Channel.
