Meet Shafi Vikraman

Shafi Vikraman is a voracious learner. He holds over 130 online certifications from colleges all around the world, including Ivy League universities. While the lockdown delayed life for some, Shafi made the most of his time by cramming as much information as he could.

145 virtual courses

He enrolled in virtual courses offered by sites like Coursera and the World Health Organization’s online learning arm after the pandemic breakout. During that time, he took a total of 145 courses. A substantial portion of the courses were focused on the medical field. He waxes poetic about the various ailments and challenges that the health system faces.

If views are wider than reach nothing is impossible

“I planned to take marketing courses, but I ended up taking a lot of medical courses. “Yale University is a dream come true for us. I now hold certifications from such institutions. “I can’t tell you how happy I am to have studied all of these courses,” Shafi, a Thiruvananthapuram resident, adds. He didn’t want to be idle, so he began taking classes in July of 2020, during the first lockdown. “It opened up a whole new universe for me,” he explains.

‘You can learn at any age’ proves Shafi

Shafi, who was in his mid-fifties at the time, took courses at Princeton, Yale, Columbia, and Wharton. To begin with, he was enrolled in over 20 courses, ranging in length from two days to two months. And he ended up studying a wide range of areas, including medicine, finance, robotics, artificial intelligence, forensics, blockchain, cryptocurrencies, food and beverage management, psychology, and others.

How he managed his studies and work ?

After work, he would study all night, from 6 p.m. until 4 a.m. He eventually left his job as a deputy general manager at a major foreign exchange corporation to concentrate on his education. “The only concern was the time zone difference, and I couldn’t get a good night’s sleep. “There were months when I didn’t get more than two hours of sleep.”

Shafi consider his qualifications as blessings

Shafi considers the qualifications he has received from 16 nations to be a blessing. “You can now study at the top universities in the world. “Everyone should take advantage of the situation. When I was younger, I was fascinated by the medical industry. “Now I can study a wide range of disciplines at prominent universities,” he says.
Shafi is currently enrolled in 22 courses. He also wishes to further his education. “Having all these certifications with me makes me feel like I’ve arrived,” Shafi says, grinning.
