‘Lakhpati Didi’ Initiative: Empowering 2 crore women with skill training

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a new scheme on August 15th, on the occasion of 77th Independence day. The scheme is named ‘Lakhpati Didi,’ and he stated, “My dream is to create two crore female millionaires in rural areas.” A senior official mentioned that the government is developing a plan under the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme to provide skill development training for two crore women. 

The aim is to encourage them to start micro-enterprises to make women self-reliant, leading the way to progress in rural communities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked, “When you visit a village, you will encounter ‘bank didi’, ‘anganwadi didi’, and ‘medicine didi’. My dream is to make two crore women millionaires in villages.” Elaborating on the issue, a senior official highlighted that the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme is already in effect in some states and now the government is planning to provide skill training for two crore women under this initiative.

‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative benefits:

1.Diverse Skillset: Women will receive comprehensive training in various fields, including plumbing, LED bulb manufacturing, drone operation, and maintenance.

2.Empowerment through Entrepreneurship: Armed with newly acquired skills, women will have the opportunity to establish micro-enterprises, contributing to local economies and national development.

3.Equal Opportunity: The initiative promotes gender equality by offering women the chance to excel in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

4.STEM Education Surge: Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the growing number of women pursuing STEM education, emphasizing the importance of equal representation in all spheres.

Steps to Join the Movement:

1.Enrollment: Interested women can enroll in the program through designated platforms, ensuring easy accessibility.

2.Skill Enhancement: Participants will undergo specialized training tailored to elevate their expertise and competence.

3.Micro-Enterprise Launch: Equipped with honed skills, women can initiate micro-enterprises, creating local impact and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.

4.Government Support: The government will extend financial aid and resources to assist micro-entrepreneurs in establishing and sustaining their businesses.

What Will Be Taught?

The official also mentioned that women will be trained in skills such as plumbing, LED bulb manufacturing, drone operation, and maintenance. The Prime Minister stated in his speech that the government will soon launch a plan to provide agricultural drones to women’s self-help groups. Initially, around 15,000 women self-help groups (SHGs) will be provided with drones. It’s worth noting that approximately 100 million women in the country are associated with SHGs.

Advancing the Nation through Women’s Leadership

He expressed that progress led by women’s leadership will propel the nation forward. Modi stated, “Today, we can proudly say that India has the highest number of female pilots in civilian aviation.” He also highlighted that women are leading the Chandrayaan mission in science. The Prime Minister emphasized that the G20 group has recognized India’s perspective on development through women’s leadership.

The ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative not only empowers women but also advances the vision of a progressive and inclusive India. By nurturing skills and encouraging entrepreneurship, this initiative unlocks opportunities for millions of women to lead and succeed, driving transformative change across the country.
